What is RE/ACT and who is it for?

RE/ACT : Recovery Education for Addictions and Complex Trauma.

Tim Fletcher began to develop this method in 2012 as the people he served in his community were looking for resources to find healing from Complex Trauma. RE/ACT helps those living with addictions and various forms of unwellness process trauma and assists them in developing techniques that lead to better decision-making.

The RE/ACT Method is split into 3 steps or levels of recovery. TIER 1, TIER 2 and TIER 3.

TIER 1: Primary care. Participants become introduced to the concepts of Complex Trauma and learn valuable tools which will aid in TIER 2, and in long-term recovery. Participants will also receive support from loving mentors, coaches or counsellors - wherever they are available.

TIER 2: Continuing primary care. Participants continue to learn the concepts of Complex Trauma and learn valuable tools which will aid in completion of TIER 2, and in long-term recovery. Participants will take deep dives into concepts that are prevalent for people coming from Complex Trauma. Each program begins with exploring the concept through the lens of Complex Trauma, deeper self-application or awareness, and then tools learned in Phase 1 to cope with each issue. Participants receive ongoing support from loving mentors, coaches and peers.

TIER 3: Continuing care. Tier 3 level courses are offered at an open-ended length of time. Individualized options for various classes and workshops are available, adaptive to each individual’s needs. TIER 2 program completion is required before entry into any of these options.

Our online programs consist of videos, downloadable course content, answering focus questions and classroom discussion. Various involvement requirements depend on course selection. The classroom discussions are important for offering support, facilitating a community atmosphere, and allowing for discussion. Participants who are in need of coaching have the option to connect with someone who can give them a weekly support session.

Our online environments will welcome each participant with dignity and respect, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, religious beliefs or otherwise, and will ensure that our staff members and other participants cooperate at all times with courtesy, understanding, and most importantly - love.

Trauma is not what happens to you. Trauma is what happens inside you as a result of what happens to you. - Gabor Maté

Our programs and training environments encourage participants to look at early childhood environments with a different type of lens; not only focusing on seemingly obvious, (largely traumatic) events, but on all of the pieces that may have played a role. We investigate biological, psychological, social and spiritual factors with a measure of curiosity, compassion and love. By examining the entire picture, we are able to see that several aspects of early childhood can be traumatic, resulting in shame-based identity development, unsound coping adaptations, and unhealthy relationship attachments.

We’re here to safely connect with, and explore that journey of discovery - together!
